Palos Verdes Estates is a master-planned city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula along the Pacific coastline. A modest population of about 14,000 people live in this affluent community, across a land area of less than five square miles.
Palos Verdes Estates was established as a subdivision in 1923, with half of the land required to be set aside for common use, including roads and parks. The developer also created bridle paths and a golf course, while retaining several miles of coastline free of development. Palos Verdes Estates was soon incorporated as a city in 1939. The city today ranks the 81st richest place in the United States with at least 1,000 households.
