Incorporated in 1907, the city itself extends only about 15 blocks from east to west and 40 blocks from north to south, with Pacific Coast Highway running down the middle. The shoreline of Hermosa Beach is popular for sunbathing, beach volleyball and surfing, in addition to plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy. The Hermosa Beach pier starts at the end of Pier Avenue, standing as one of the community’s main areas for shopping, eating and socializing.
